Clear the Tabs
I don't have a lot of time this morning, so here's some stuff I've been reading/looking at of interest. You might be amused by it as well.
There's a recipe for a Sweet Potato Cream Cheese Pie I've been eyeing. The First Reader doesn't care for sweet potatoes, but the rest of us do! When the Jr Mad Scientist cleaned out the pantry she identified a can of yams as 'need to use' and I'm wondering if that would work in this pie.
Speaking of food, there's a wonderful collection of Mexican cookbooks available for free online. Yes, they are in Spanish and yes, some of them are handwritten (!! the best kind!) but if any of you are like me, you'll still be interested. I can read Spanish better than I can speak it (which isn't a brag. I'm not great at that, either) partly because of Mom's early introduction of Latin to my curricula.
If I ever have time... in other words, probably not going to happen. I'll listen to this. Why is it easier for me to read than it is to take in a video? Anyway, Camille Paglia and Jordan Peterson chatting sounds just fascinating.
Still seeking out, and reading, Siberian/Russian folktales for the East Witch. Which is another of my open tabs, that work in progress. I've been working on it, and am starting to get more comfortable with dictation to tell it, just need to find the time to write it all up. Anyway, the Yukaghir tales are definitely not the child-friendly sanitized Grimm tales of my childhood. They are, ah, earthy, violent, and sometimes more than a little alien. But they help me create a world that isn't my own in a setting I've never been to.
There are some wonderful visuals you can take from them, really. I wish I was a better artist some days (most days). That bear with a copper bell in each ear!
She struck the ground with her iron-tipped staff, and all at once she turned into an arctic fox. In this form she sped on, swifter than ever. The big mouth, however, followed after, wide open, and ready to swallow her. She struck the ground with her iron- tipped staff, turned into a wolverene and fled swifter than ever, but the evil mouth followed after. She struck the ground with her iron-tipped staff and turned into a wolf and sped away swifter than ever. She struck the ground with her iron-pointed staff and turned into a bear, with a copper bell in each ear. She ran off swifter than ever, but the big mouth followed and gained on her steadily. Finally, it came very near, and was going to swallow her.
