Cover me! I'm going in...
I've done a lot of book covers over the years, and had a lot of fun doing it. I'm not quitting, just celebrating some recent releases.
Most recent is Kal Sprigg's latest.
Valor's Inheritance was a different challenge for me. It's the latest release in a long-running series, so I needed to fit the series look while also hitting the design beats for Space Opera. As I wasn't the designer for earlier books, that made it a little tricky.
The fun thing here is that I got to use two of the space art elements I did back in April, during that focus month. I had a feeling those would be handy and I was right. The rusty planet in particular suits this story to a tee.
The other cover is one I did some time back, and it's a total opposite in style from Valor. Which works, because Dusk Knight is a completely different author, genre, everything. As a cover designer, this pleases me, as I have the chance to meet new challenges all the time in making sure the covers I do for clients (and my own books) suit the specific sub-genre and meet the marketing requirements of being eye-catching sales pitches for the books. It's never boring, and it's a constantly changing market, other than the purpose of the design work.
Book cover>blurb>sale... That's how it works.
Dusk Knight will grab you. I'm thrilled with how the cover came out, because the story inside is something special and I wanted to ensure it got the cover it deserved.
