Going on an Adventure!
Road Trip for Memories
About the time you read this, I’ll be on the road. I’m traveling for probably a bit over a week, headed from Texas to the green state of Kentucky. I’m leaving my husband to the tender mercies of the cats, with friends looking in on them, and he informs me he’s looking forward to peace and quiet but also, please keep him updated as I go. I’ll miss him badly, but he can’t travel long distances safely.
I’ve loaded up my little car and am driving, because I don’t care to fly these days, really hate renting a car, and also, I am planning to make this a detour-iffic road trip, paying flying visits to family and friends on the way to and from. The main goal of the trip, the thing that is prying me out of home and garden like a winkle from her shell, though…
I’m headed to my Dad’s memorial service. We planned it as close to his 70th birthday as we could get it, for lack of any better date to gather the family around. The plan is to have a small service, and a long rolling storytelling and remembering at Mom’s house. They might have been divorced for many years, but they remained friends to the end. My sisters and I will get to spend time together, which is precious, and having it at Mom’s means my youngest sister, who can’t travel at all, will be part of this farewell gathering.
So my heart is heavy, and happy, all at once. This is a bittersweet family gathering. One thing about two thousand miles alone in the car, I’ll have lots of time to finally think about Dad and process this loss. I’ve been stuffing it into a compartment since he passed.
As I usually do on a road trip, I’ll be looking for good places to stop and take a walk, or a short hike. No grasslands this time, I think, as I head east and into the forests. I have my camera, of course, so there should be lots of photos in a couple of weeks when I’m back.
I’ve preloaded the blog with a bunch of scheduled posts, as I have no idea where I’ll be some nights, may have little internet and even less energy, so y’all be good in the comments and keep each other company! I’ll check in when I can. I should be back in ten days to blogging and being happily home with the husband and garden and ooooh the weeds LOL this is why I shouldn’t travel during the growing season!

Be well, my friend. May God guard you on your travels.
Traveling as much as you can and as much as you want to is a good idea. Get it all done before you get too old. Eat well, rest, be safe. Enjoy.
