"sufficiently adored" is not really quantifiable. If you don't set limits then the really important things will nev...never mind.

Back when newspapers were still a thing, the one calico would usually wait until the paper was opened and then either periscope in or jump into it.

She would occasionally remind me that while she was very shy with a lot of things, she could still raise picks in denim while happily purring and kneading.

Keyboards were solved by her simply smacking the escape key. Do it 3 times and SLMR would exit to a DOS prompt and the cat would then get the direly needed attention while FidoNet and RIME got none.

The current crew has been known to just lay on the Kindle as a much simpler solution.

All night, in bed. No kitty. Time to get up? Kitty demands snuggles, curls up, and goes to sleep in the crook of my arm. “I’m going to sit with a cuppa and read a book. Need a lap?” Crickets. On the other hand, deep in Photoshop or writing? Cat must lie across my arms (or sit on the e-pad). I have a standing desk, so there’s no lap to sit in, alas.
