Back when newspapers were still a thing, the one calico would usually wait until the paper was opened and then either periscope in or jump into it.
She would occasionally remind me that while she was very shy with a lot of things, she could still raise picks in denim while happily purring and kneading.
Keyboards were solved by her simply smacking the escape key. Do it 3 times and SLMR would exit to a DOS prompt and the cat would then get the direly needed attention while FidoNet and RIME got none.
The current crew has been known to just lay on the Kindle as a much simpler solution.
