Mutter of Writer
I'm engaging in a bit of procrastination this morning. I really ought to be cleaning the kitchen. Most of our day will be out of pocket - going to see the house for the first time, dinner with friends, several hours of driving - so I have about, um, four hours to write, make art, shower and dress, and clean the daggone kitchen. Guess what I'm doing?
Now, I did take the dog out to read her morning peemail. I have to wonder if she will miss this little ritual when we no longer walk her over a patch of lawn that is used by dozens of other dogs. We will certainly not miss having to dress, locate the little bags, and deal with stairs before coffee while it's still frosty out there. Only saving grace is that Texas winter is not like Ohio winter (or for that matter New England or Alaska.... it's so nice to have moved as far south as I'm going to get!) Having a fenced yard, or a run like we used in Ohio will be blissfully easier for all concerned. She can take her time with her business, even if there are less scents to investigate. We can watch through the window with our hands wrapped around a coffee mug until she's ready to come inside again.
The cat, on the other paw, is unlikely to care much about the outside of any place we live. She does enjoy the tiny balcony, but has no inclination to attempt an escape from it, or for that matter the open front door when opportunity presents itself. She was a stray, and she's had enough Outside thankyouverymuch. It will be interesting to relocate her litterbox, though. She's used to being closed in with the boy and a bathroom at night, so she's got access and he's got privacy. I don't think he will want her box in his bedroom, so that may mean she can't sleep with him. We will figure that out as we go. Just like all the other little details of life that are involved with moving.
It will be an adventure. Hopefully the last one for quite some time, but I hesitate to challenge the universe in that way. We will see what Monday, and the inspector's report, brings. Last house hunt, we let a house go when the report showed deep and costly to repair issues, and I have no qualms about doing that again should it be required.
Today's art prompt - it's an illustration for AstroLizards - is running pangolin. I'm rather looking forward to that. I need to charge the Apple Pencil before I make art for the day, though. Downside of being all digital. Upside is that with life in a tiny apartment, I don't have room to sprawl out into messy traditional projects. Now, in a house? With a big shop? Ooooh I'm going to have some fun!
Writing in progress - I'm working on the Chloe story I've been snippeting off and on. Correction: I'm working on two Chloe stories. One will be sent in for a haunted library anthology. The other will become the next release in that series. I really should be writing something else, but this is what's feeding the brain. And, having procrastinated more than enough, I should go interrupt her tea party with Mr. Cruor, and have Something Happen. Not the classic Chandler Man with a Gun, I hasten to say. Chloe's story isn't that kind of action. No, it's more twisty weirdness with a healthy dose of tongue-in-cheek hyperrational young woman who simply doesn't let anything phase her. Just like the real person she's based on.
