Today has been a busy day and it’s not over by a longshot. So instead of an essay, this week you get reading suggestions.
First of all, my my favorite reviewer is writing again! Furthermore, he’s reviewed two books I’ve been involved in. I think you’ll find that his writing is entertaining, in and of itself, which is why Papa Pat is my favorite reviewer. You can find his review of Twisted Tropes here, and a review of Postcards from Foolz which is a feat, given there are twenty 50-word stories in that book.
If you happen to run across anything written by Cedar Sanderson, RUN! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE! Unless, that is, you wish to fall in love with the works of one of the finest wordsmiths, story tellers, and balloon manipulators of all time.
—Pat Patterson
Ok, I guess that’s a little self-promo there as well.
However, the next book announcement is more of a squee! as Iktapop Media has brought out another Leigh Brackett novel, and I will always pick up a Leigh Bracket. You can get The Starmen of Llyrdis on Amazon.
Another author that is buy-on-release, but one that is living and producing (more, more!) is Alma Boykin, and the eighth novel in her Merchants and Empire series, Herbs and Empire, dropped today.
I don’t know if I have mentioned More Odds Than Ends here before, but if you feel stuck and need a spark to fire up your imagination, you can always find a prompt over there. There are two and a half years of them, both the challenge prompts and the spare prompts. Fresh prompts post every Wednesday morning, and if you want you can submit prompts to be included as a spare. If you want to throw your hat into the ring and receive a randomly-assigned prompt of your own, drop a line! Instructions are in the sidebar of the blog there.
I’m involved in a little thing called The BroadCast, which is a fun podcast with my fellow Moms of the Apocalypse. This week’s episode is a little different, and if you’re interested in fabric, sewing, historical garments, and how artists think in various media from 2D to 3D and finally 4D… you’ll want to catch this one!
Want something more science to read? This paper on the makeup of the genes that help us remember, and their possible viral origin, is fascinating.
Later this month I will be at LibertyCon, so if you plan to attend that con, you can find me there. My schedule is here, although there’s likely to be other things that aren’t on that… I’m usually quite busy at a convention.
Clears throat. Ahem, squee.
Thank you for sharing these suggestions, especially Leigh Brackett’s. 🙇♂️
