State of the Writer
April 30 2026
It’s been a very eventful month. I have been writing but drips and drabs here and there. Part of the reason is the usual: other work, the garden, stress, and…
In an hour we leave to go get my husband extensive oral surgery. After long slow months of testing and evaluation to ensure he could take the risk of this, we got clearance from the cardiologist a week ago today for him to get it done. We were able to get in that day for the evaluation appointment, and they were able to schedule him just a week later for the surgery. It was far less than we thought it was going to be (but still I need to write like the wind for the rest of the year!) and we had extensive savings for just this sort of thing.
Most of all, though, this is going to be rough. He’s having fifteen teeth out, bone grafts, and coming home with full dentures. This is the result of medication damage and a VA-built bridge that literally cut supporting teeth off. For the next few weeks I’m going to be making soft foods for him. We’ve been planning for that. We’re also looking forward to a few weeks after that when he can actually chew! So yes, this is nerve-wracking for the next several hours. After that, recovery will take a lot of time. After that? Well, we both have high hopes for the results when he’s not got a lingering oral infection and pain constantly.
I may not be around much in the next few days. We’ll see.
If you would, prayers for my First Reader to have a safe procedure and speedy recovery are much appreciated.

Home safe. They had him in surgery for 3.5 hours, no complications. Thank you all so very much.
Prayers on the way for Sanford...
And for the loving wife who is seeing him through this mess.
