Story Science
Yesterday's story - which ended with biochemically powered holographic displays - was inspired by real science.
"For foods, holograms made with nanoparticles have been proposed, but the tiny particles can generate reactive oxygen species, which might be harmful for people to eat. In a different approach, food scientists have molded edible holograms onto chocolate, but the process only works for certain types of the confection, and a different mold is needed for each hologram design." One of the things mentioned in the article was the production of reactive oxidization by the hologram, which was what got me thinking, combined with the story prompt, about the process of oxidization and how wine begins to break down as soon as you open the bottle and expose it to the air we breathe. Which is, in some wines, a vital part of the process of developing the flavor - called letting it breathe. So... why not use that as fuel?
Anyway, it was a fun little concept to play around with.
