I was afraid the garden would die while I was gone, and frankly when I did get home after eight days on the road it was pretty rough. I increased the tempo of watering on the veggie garden to daily, which helped. We got a decent amount of rain… all at once. When 1.29” of rain falls in about an hour, a lot of it just runs off. Still, it did help.
July, August, and even September are the hard months. It’s hot, often triple digits for months on end, and it’s dry, with little to no rainfall for those same months. I will evaluate the garden production, and perhaps scale back the water - no point in paying for it if we can’t eat the results. Next year when I have several hundred gallons of water those calculations change.
This doesn’t mean there isn’t beauty in the Garden. You just have to look a little more closely.
