The modern update to the Spanish Flu story post-Covidian apocalypse is iatrogenic death. Turns out the newly discovered safe-and-effective aspirin was in the hands of doctors with the highest degree of unaccountability viz their patients.
Back when I was on active duty we were made to take the annual flu shot. After I retired I'd only get the flu shot if the doctor suggested it. During my annual physical in 2025 my doctor asked me if I'd had my flu shot yet. I told him I'd heard that some of the new flu shots had mRNA components. He affirmed that some of the flu vaccines did. I told him that I did not trust "Medicine" to be forthcoming on the components of vaccine and politely declined the flu shot. He nodded at me in a "me too" fashion.
