At the risk of being one of ‘those people’ I’m going to talk about a topic which has been done and done again and frankly I’m not sure of the utility in covering it again.
I've had a lot of luck dictating while rowing, but I started telling myself stories under my breath as a kid while wandering around the house, so some of that is just weird personal wiring.
I'd be wearing a helmet and a safety harness suspended to the rafters in the ceiling if I was Cedar. You sound saner than her. Typing while walking? Oh, Hell no. They say most deaths by falling in the U.S. are from 6 foot stepladders. I'm 6 feet tall and take no chances.
I dunno, B. Porch. 3mph at a high incline on an electric powered belt and knowing the possibility of a fatal faceplant. Geez, at least wear a helmet, rubber boots & gloves. You know that if you go face down on a treadmill and are knocked unconscious, it can be like a cheese grater, right?
I’m walking at 1.5mph with very little incline, and have a desk top (board) clamped to the treadmill. It works, although I do typo more than when I am typing at my fixed desk.
I am inclined to walk, bicycle and kayak. Not as much as I used to, though. I prefer bicycling. See more scenery and I am sitting down. Several safe bike trails here.
Well, she's walking while I'm trotting at 3mph. I also have that emergency stop cord clipped to me in case I slip. Plus, if I fall, I have a retired nurse to yell at me while she keeps me alive. 😉
Sounds like you have your bases covered. Now I (we) only need to worry about Cedar. But, you know, if a face got grated by a cheese grater it might be wise to have a good solid DNR on file.
I never had a weight problem, I guess I knew the secret early, very early on and picked the right grandparents. Most of my life I've been reasonably active and of course that helps too.
For every blessing genes give, they can also deliver the curse of Ossatura Magna (big-bonedness), Jim. Me? I got the blue eyes and a pot gut genes. In the Nature or Nurture part of the equation, maybe some personal failures in the nurture part are my own fault. About 50 years a good friend of mine, a portly man, told me, "Dale, a diet is just a controlled intake of calories. Nothing more. Choose your intake wisely." I did. 2000 to 4000 calories a day. It works when it works and when it doesn't, I cut back a little bit.
Among the updates I'm going to do in my office is to add a standing desk and treadmill. I've seen some very sleek models that should do the job nicely that aren't terribly overpriced. Having just moved from an all-day on my feet job to a desk job, I am trying very hard to find the new balance of caloric intake and activity.
I have a sit-to-stand desk and walking pad in my office, as well as the treadmill in my studio, and it is a great setup. I got that when my day job was remote work. My setup was about $350 to put together a couple of years ago.
I read on my recumbent bike (garage sales in my town are epic) but I think I need to treadmill more. (yes I have one...inherited) but I'm not coordinated enough to do much but listen to stuff while treadmilling.
Outstanding! I’m currently stuck in my fat loss journey, even with intermittent fasting. Considering going Cave Man for a bit. Have started doing various body weight exercises, Pilates, and walking at least once a week. I need to walk more like 5x/week, but it’s a start. 3 miles on a sandy beach is also good phys therapy for my achy feet. Plus interesting birds. I really need to bring the bird book next time…. I switched to a standing desk about six years ago, and it helped enormously with my back problems. These days I only sit to type if I’m exhausted or have foot/knee pain, which is more rare these days.
We take at least one walk a day, sometimes a second shorter one, even if it's just around the block. I've been doing more exercises and writing in spurts/sprints of 25 minutes and then doing a lap or two around the house or backyard before returning to the keyboard. I'm trying to be consistent about it.

Congrats, Ms. Cedar. 🫡
I walk on the treadmill six days out of the week, averaging a mile a day. It ain't much, but it gets me moving and thinking.
I wouldn't try typing, though. I set my pace on a high incline and bump it up to 3mph, so I'd probably do a faceplant if I tried. 😁
