For my sins, I’ve had to deal with a number of used car dealers, some good some bad and a few simply awful. One notable experience as follows: for reasons that made sense at th time,I found myself in possession of a 34 ft RV Trailer. So, I was in the market for a tow vehicle. I figured a ten year old or so three quarter ton pickup or suburban. So off to a dealership I went. After describing my needs, salesman offered a well used Ford Bronco. Not exactly what I was looking for, but the salesman insisted was capable of towing the trailer, yeah right. Anyhoo I did a test drive, OMG. Not only was it gutless, without towing anything, the steering had a shimmy and was totally worn out. I said thanks but no thanks and considered myself lucky to have survived the experience. The next day the sales manager called me at home and wanted to know what it would take to put me in that Bronco. I said something like pay me ten grand and I’ll drive it to the junkyard.

*Star Trek* was, after all, about a military ship. Unsurprising it had military conditions.
