Writing Plans in May
State of the Writer
Having started this month out with what felt suspiciously like the flu, and even today dealing with a sinus headache (we got well over an inch of rain in the last three hours this morning) I’ve been dragging tail after finishing up with The Groundskeeper: Deadhead and although I did choose, read back into, and start writing the May project, I’ve stalled. I should be back up to speed now that the big thunderstorms have passed, and the pressure should let up in my head. Our back yard is a pond, right at the moment, with a creek flowing into it from the neighbor’s yard. Whee…
The project I’m working on is the core of a novel, which will be called Supporting Ragnarok, and my husband and I started writing it together about five years ago. We’d shelved it in the hectic times that began in early 2020 and with his illness the last few years, I’ve been reluctant to pick it back up and attempt it solo. It is a very military fantasy, about a supply NCO who dies valiantly in combat after being in the wrong place at the wrong time. As he learns, where he winds up “Isn’t valhalla, but that’s close enough understanding so we’ll run with it.” I need my husband’s help to get the military feel all correct. I’m so glad he is up to helping again.
The good thing is that I had almost 40K words when I picked it back up, I’ve got rather a lot more than 40K now, and I’ll have it fully written in May if I can keep my wits about me. It looks as though I’ll wind up with a series, if it sells well and fans want that. The wonderful news is that my husband is still able to work with me on it, and we’ve had a good time working back into the characters and plots together.
I don’t know what I’ll do about paid-subscriber content, because it seems like a lot to dump into their email boxes all at once. Perhaps I’ll amuse myself with some side projects for them during this month.

I like the idea. I like that First Reader is doing well. I think the illustrations in today's post are great. I hope you get better soon but I think the time of allergens is upon us.

When it rains here extensively we get a pond in our sizable backyard where we kept my wife's horses. Due to their preferences for eliminating, we ended up calling the pond "Lake Pony-Caca". (hopefully that's not too outré of a comment - it was inspired by an Animaniacs song)
