Been there done that, although with the bathroom instead of a kitchen. You go to fix one thing and then you find another, then another. Two weeks later I dang near had a new bathroom.
My projects tend to turn into sagas. The Dishwasher Saga was by far the worst, to date anyway. Super-short version: Old dishwasher died. New dishwasher installed. New dishwasher died. Repaired under warranty. New dishwasher died, again. Repaired, again. Repair guy said, "it's the cold water. The heating element is right over a chip and if it runs too long, the chip fries." Looked up lemon-law. Shoveled snow into it to force the failure - three more times. Got a voucher for a new dishwasher. Got a new, new dishwasher. Guess what happened next. I went without a dishwasher for the next several years. It just wasn't worth it.
I love dishwashers, in general. The new kitchen has one. It is a Barbie Dream House dishwasher, by Bosch. It's very small to fit in the limited space so we run it every day, which keeps stuff from drying on and me from feeling guilty running a full size dishwasher only half full.
Wildly unrelated: I wondered why I had this unusual icon next to my posts. This is not WordPress with Gravitar; it's Substack. I'll see if I can update it...
Wow! do I feel your pain. Been doing the cascading failure-fix-payoff thing for the past 35 years, and finally got ahead of it. It all started with putting in a marble tile floor before moving in. A week later, with stuff moved in, the A/C failed catastrophically and needed replacing. For almost exactly the cost of the newly-laid tile. If you want to make God laugh, just make plans.
Yes. This is on top of knowing work needs to be done in the bathroom. And we replaced the AC early this spring, having known it was necessary since last fall. LOL! This is life and home ownership.

Yikes, that is a saga! The snow was clever, though.
My husband won't use the dishwasher. He never had one up until five years ago. I grew up without one, also, but I do love the time-saving!
