I saw “commode” and instantly saw the flood of AI “stories” cluttering up the ether, all using identical hackneyed phrases, same four plots, same five names, and boring audio narration. Definitely falls into the commode.
My marketing theory is, write something people want to read; publish a lot of it. We'll see how that works out since I'm likely to only put out one book per year at best.
I'm the reader who basically reads only free books. Two reasons, I'm old, mid 80's, limited income and small town library. Like most of us in this age range we are either plagued with arthritis and have trouble holding books or have eye problems or both. With kindle we can increase the size of the fonts and readers are much easier to hold. At this point I'm back to reading Si-Fi series. If I've finished the series I'll read something I call fluff. No brain power needed. Then I'm back into the next series.
Personal opinion: The MBAs' goal is to make the writer and cover artist as interchangeable as an office or assembly line worker.
MBA: "You want more money? Work harder."
And LLMs are giving publishing platforms that capacity through generative and translation abilities. You get LLMs spitting out stories that others edit. Plus, you open up foreign book markets through cheap digital translators. You want to read Japanese Isekai or Chinese wuxia but can't read those languages? AI will do that soon.
And if you find one nation with a lower standard of living than the target market, it's katy bar the door. 🫤
