It has come to my attention that I don't read enough recent YA SF/F or alt-hist since I didn't have anything I could nominate in those categories. What I had read was too old.
*SIGH*
But thanks for the reminder. I nearly forgot to nominate this year.
And how, oh why, is there no LitRPG/Gamelit category?
I've thought about doing an awards thing. I have no clue how to go about doing such a thing though, and it would need input from more than your friendly neighborhood reviewer.
I'll see if I can come up with something. Maybe. Possibly. No promises.
But IF I DO it will have to be either juried or voted on by the public and not something I do myself because I can't read enough books in a year to host an award that covers the whole genre.
Oh, agreed on that last. Might - and this is a might - read the top nominations. But otherwise, I like the idea of fan awards, just not pay-to-play like a certain 'top award' is. It has a whole host of problems to work out, it would be a lot of work... and it would be so rewarding.
Also, you likely would need a crew, not just you. Hm.
Did you do the cover for Dorothy Grant's Dust of the Ocean? That was my hands-down favorite this year.
It's been a long time since I had cover artists I followed: Charles Mikolayak, Robin Jaques, Trina Schart Hyman, Dawn Wilson, Elizabeth Malzinski et al. Never picked it back up after I GAFIA-ted. But there were some, where I'd see the cover and think "I'm going to like this book". Found some of my favorite authors, including Andre Norton, that way.
Yes, I did, and it was a deliberate homage to the pulp scifi that inspired her work, which we both thought would give readers a clue about what they would find inside. It's an awesome book.
No best anthology awards?
Unfortunately the Dragon Awards don't recognize any short works. We will have to find another way to get the anthologies recognition!
For shame!

We need more reputable awards. Something a reviewer might spark off. *looks at Jim, grinning*

You both nailed it.
